Atlassian Community Round-up: June 2024

Hello Everyone!

It’s that time once again to take a look at everything that has happened in the past month! From major events, to product announcements, to amazing people providing great tips & best practices to help the Community, I guarantee there is something here for everyone. Let’s get started!

Announcements & Highlights:

As always, there are a TON of amazing things happening and here is just a small sample of all the great things you don’t want to miss out on!

  • First up, likes for trees is back and it starts today! Why not kick things off by dropping a like on this article and planting three trees!

  • Next up, The June Community release notes includes a couple of display bug fixes and updated content in the recommended Learning panel. Check out the notes for more specific details.

  • Over in the kudos update, this is the inaugural announcement that this will also be a regular monthly update now that the project has been officially launched as of Feb. 2024. If you want to checkout some amazing stats about the program go read the full notes and be sure to keep an eye out for this update as it will include tips on how you can earn a few extra kudos points each month.

  • Speaking of earning kudos, be sure to watch the recording linked in this article then share your Confluence Automation tips in this article for a shiny, new kudos badge!

  • While it may have ended, if you missed out on JSM June, you can get a recap of everything that was shared in this article. I personally recommend checking out the Assets and Incident Management product spotlights.

  • Most people know that I’m a certification evangelist. Atlassian recently shared updates on how to renew your certifications. I’m really excited to see that this now encouraging continued learning and community involvement. This was also covered on the June Live Learning session if you want to watch that for answers to some of your more specific questions you might have about this.

  • And speaking of certifications, the Austin Office just recently held a boot camp for the ACA-900 certification. If you missed out, I will be covering the same exam at my next, Live Learning session on July 15th.

  • While you are signing up for all of the Live Learning sessions, be sure to also check out the newest season of Quiz Wiz. This season you get to watch people test their knowledge against Jira and Confluence Admins. If you missed the first Jira Admin session at the end of June, @Andy Gladstone has shared this reminder to make sure we don’t miss out on the Confluence one at the end of July.

  • Do you know the history of “Jira“? I found this timeline @Rachel Wright put together to be very fascinating. You should go check it out and see a what point in this timeline you started using Jira. You might learn something you didn’t know before.

  • Finally, I love finding stories about unique uses of the Atlassian products and this is one of my favorites so far.  @Tomislav Tobijas _Koios_ has found a really fun unique way to use Jira Product Discovery to track everything while he was planning the design of his new home. I really can’t do proper justice to the level of detail he has gone into, go read it for yourself and get inspired about what you can do with JPD.

New Features & Product Updates:

Want to keep up to date on all the cool things Atlassian has announced about their products? Be sure to read through these, then go check out all the others for your favorite product!

  • First up, I wasn’t sure if this belonged in announcements or updates and features so I put it right here. Atlassian is making it easier for startups to get up and running faster free tooling for a year. Want to learn more? Checkout this article and the link to apply if this is something you are interested in.

  • Next, in case you missed it, Sherif Mansour wrote an AI exclusive of everything that you can start playing with including a new “free“ Atlassian University course to teach you more about the AI features in the Atlassian products.

  • Speaking of AI, the new AIOps capabilities in Jira Service Management allow you to use AI to recognize patterns in the alerts that are coming in to help group them into categories that will make it easier for your incident responders to identify what the most critical alerts are and the order in which things need to be actioned.

  • This one you are going to want to pay attention to! Atlassian will be updating their TLS ciphers on July 8th. They claim this will not affect customers using OAuth to access the Cloud products, but I would encourage you to go checkout the related link in this article to see exactly how this may affect you and your company so that you aren’t caught off guard next Monday.

  • Next, do you have Jira boards that fail to load because the board query has more than 5000 items? Sadly, my company has been a victim of this on more than one occasion. Have no fear, with the newest update the board will load, but it won’t show you all of those issues. I still think cleaning up is important, but this is a great update that allows teams to continue to work.

  • Have you started using “Atlassian Home“? It's the new platform experience that enables users to leverage goals, projects, teams, and topics, creating a more unified system of work. The are now starting the Alpha phase of including dashboards and Atlassian is looking for enthusiastic individuals that are interested in helping them by giving feedback, helping to validate the experience, and identify areas for improvement. Does this sound like you? Go check it out if it does.

  • Last month, we talked about how you can add smart links to your Confluence Page tree. This month, you can now share smart links of your Jira Dashboards to embed them directly into Confluence pages! How cool is that?

  • The #AtlassianCreators are back! This time their are sharing their tips on how to use Confluence Whiteboards. If you haven’t tried this feature yet, now might be the time to get inspired about some of the ways you can utilize it.

  • Speaking of Confluence, are you interested in using Loom within Confluence? The beta waitlist is now available! If this is something you want to try and provide feedback on, be sure to go and sign up today.

  • Finally, throughout the month of June you may have noticed that tag links and lozenges have disappeared from the commits list page. Atlassian made the decisions to remove these from the list page due to performance implications. If you are still interested in seeing the tags they are still displayed on the individual commit view pages.

Take care!
