Atlassian Community Round-up: September 2024

Hello Everyone!

It’s that time once again to take a look at everything that has happened in the past month! From major events, to product announcements, to amazing people providing great tips & best practices to help the Community, I guarantee there is something here for everyone. Let’s get started!

Announcements & Highlights:

As always, there are a TON of amazing things happening and here is just a small sample of all the great things you don’t want to miss out on!

New Features & Product Updates:

Want to keep up to date on all the cool things Atlassian has announced about their products? Be sure to read through these, then go check out all the others for your favorite product!

  • First up, two articles with some love for my Data Center friends. Both of these articles have announced that the new LTS versions of Bitbucket and Jira/JSM will be available in Q4 of 2024. Additionally, they highlight the items that you can expect to be coming in those releases. I would encourage you to check them both out so you can start planning your upgrades soon.

  • Next, if you (like my company) struggle with the velocity reports timing out at times, I have great news for you. Atlassian is making some enhancements to make the process that generated this report asynchronous which should prevent those time out errors from happening.

  • Do you wish you had the ability to provide a quick response in a Jira ticket? Well now you can! Jira now has smart replies which are a few common replies that you can add with a single click.

  • Atlassian Goals are a great way to define your success criteria. However, up until now it has been difficult to determine your progress towards those goals. Atlassian is making that easier by allowing you to define metrics for goals which will help you track your progress against goals. Want to learn more? Check out the article!

  • For everyone that is taking advantage of JSM Assets, please note that at the end of this month (as of October 31st, 2024) Object types will be limited to 2 unique constraints. Atlassian is making this change to provide a more scalable and performant solution. If you are currently using more than 2 unique constraints on your object types, please read the full article for details and plan on making changes before the end of the month.

  • Do you have pages in Confluence who’s only purpose is to hold a collection of other pages? Well now yo have another option, Atlassian has launched Folders into beta! This is a new Confluence object type that can be used to organize your pages in a page tree. If you are interested in learning more, please read all the details in the article.

  • Speaking of updates to Confluence, there are also some new enhancements to Databases. There are now two methods for creating pages from a database. Fixed, where new pages will always be the child of a select parent item. Or Dynamic, which will use the context of where you are currently editing. You also have more choice between using page templates and database entries. If I have piqued your interest, you should check out the article for all the details.

  • Finally, Guard Premium has new enhancements to alerts to make it easier for you to make sense of the data more easily so that you can take action faster. This includes the ability to see actual search terms, powerful filters and the ability to connect searches to page view activity.
