We are excited to share that Bitbucket Data Center 9.4 will be our next Long Term Support (LTS) release for Bitbucket, planned for Q4 calendar year 2024.
Many of you have have asked about the next Long Term Support (LTS) release for Bitbucket Data Center following the release of Bitbucket 9.0. To help you plan, we wanted to let you know that Bitbucket 9.4 LTS is scheduled for Q4 2024.
LTS releases contain backported bug fixes to improve security, stability, and the top admin and user value, inclusive of all the features released since the previous Bitbucket LTS release, 8.19.
This LTS release is packed with benefits to strengthen security for growing enterprises. You’ll also find powerful features that accelerate team productivity and improvements to the admin experience with features designed to enhance your organization's security. Below are a few highlights, though not a comprehensive list of improvements in the upcoming release.

Reminder to plan ahead for 8.9 support EOL
As a quick reminder for customers currently on Bitbucket 8.9, the support end of life (EOL) date for that version will be April 2025. The release of 9.4 LTS in December is a great chance to start planning ahead!
How to decide if a Bitbucket LTS release is right for you
If you can, we encourage you to always upgrade to the latest Feature release so you can take advantage of all the new goodness we’re shipping for Bitbucket. (more background on release types here)
However, if you’re unable to upgrade frequently or the complexity of your instance necessitates that you stay on a version for a year or longer, then the 9.4 LTS release may be a better choice for you. This way, you have the option to stay on a supported version for longer, with the assurance of backported fixes for critical bugs and security issues.
