Atlassian Community Round-up: May 2024

 Hello Everyone!

It’s that time once again to take a look at everything that has happened in the past month! From major events, to product announcements, to amazing people providing great tips & best practices to help the Community, I guarantee there is something here for everyone. Let’s get started!

Announcements & Highlights:

As always, there are a TON of amazing things happening and here is just a small sample of all the great things you don’t want to miss out on!

  • First up, while Team '24 may have come to an end, be sure to check and see if the party is still going in a city near you. There are a number of local recap events that are taking place around the world (a number of while are continuing into June.

  • Next up, the Online Community team is always hard a work making quality of life improvements to make the community everything you need to get the help you are looking for. This month a very impactful change has been launched, now if there is an active incident in Atlassian’s public Statuspage it will be displayed in a banner message when to got to ask a question to the community.

  • Do you like community badges? Yeah, I do too! Well now there’s a new badge for you to earn all about Confluence Whiteboards. What do you need to do to get your hands on this shiny new badge? Join the Confluence Whiteboards group and start participating in discussions and sharing your tips and tricks!

  • Do you know what my favorite announcements was from Team ‘24? Yes, that’s right! All on-demand training is FREE! Now, you can go to the Atlassian University and spend hours watching free training for all the products and topics you want to learn about. This is also great for people who are trying to prepare for certification exams.

  • Speaking of which, now that all the training is free. Why not share your playlist of all the great courses you are planning to watch first with your own Learning playlist!

  • Have you tried using Loom yet? I’ve barely scratched the surface with it, but I can already see how powerful it is. Are you interested in learning more? Be sure to check out the Live Learning events chapter for the next intro session on getting started with Loom. While you are there be sure to join any of the other intro sessions you are interested in.

  • Do you feel like too much of your day is spent sitting in meetings? While signups for this have ended, I found a ton of great information attached to this for you to go and try it on your own. If you are keen to try and make more time for you to focus and be productive, I’d encourage you to read through this article.

  • Trello’s Collaborator limits went in place on May 20th. Were you prepared for this change? Are you still unsure what you need to do? Go check out the details of this article and the embedded video, where @Dreamsuite Mike and @Brittany Joiner talk through everything you need to know about this change.

  • Have you looked at the main difference between Cloud and Data Center? Are you aware of the key differences and the advantages/disadvantages each one offers? If you aren’t aware, you should check out this high level summary by @Sushant Verma. This might be the piece that helps you decide what’s right for you.

  • Finally, if you are like me, you always want to play with all the shiny new things. However, @Teodora V _Fun Inc_ does a great job in reminding us that having the correct set of tools is better than either not enough or too many tools. Be sure to give to full article a read, I promise it’s worth it!

New Features & Product Updates:

Want to keep up to date on all the cool things Atlassian has announced about their products? Be sure to read through these, then go check out all the others for your favorite product!

  • First up, let’s start with what was probably the BIGGEST announcement from Team ‘24, Atlassian’s newest product coming soon, ROVO. What is it? In a nutshell, it will be a new virtual teammate to help teams find and connect with their work, as well as learn and take action. Check out this aggregated article which points a number of resources for you to learn more about it.

  • Next up, no Guard isn’t exactly a new product, but rather a rebrand. Atlassian Access is going by the new name of Guard. All of the features from Atlassian Access today will be a part of the Guard “Standard“ subscription. Guard “Premium“ (which has yet to be released) will add all of the threat detection and remediation features from Beacon (which has/is currently in Beta).

  • Speaking of rebranding, get ready for all those Jira acronyms to get a little bit easier as Jira Software (JSW) and Jira Work Management (JWM) are going to be combined into a single product simply called “Jira“. Want to learn more about what this means? Check out the article which will talk about all the powerful features that are being brought together and stay tuned for future announcements about what this will mean for future developments.

  • There were so many updates to Atlassian Intelligence capabilities across all of the Atlassian Cloud products, I really wanted to include them all, but I thought I would share the one that I thought had some of the coolest enhancements. All coming soon, AI is going to improve your Agent productivity with, AI issue triage for taking actions such as bulk assignments based on ticket information. AI sentiment analysis to help identify customer frustrations earlier and Agent recommendations to help identify next steps and/or SMEs to ask for help.

  • I wasn’t sure if this should have been posted as an announcement or a product update, so here we are. If you missed the earlier announcement, effective March 11th, 2024 Atlassian deprecated the ability to login directly to Opsgenie. You are now required to use an Atlassian ID to login to Opsgenie. If you need SSO as a part of your process, you will need to look to Atlassian Access Guard to accomplish this going forward. Be sure to check out the details in the article if you are impacted by this decision.

  • Next up, and this is one I’m very excited about, it is now possible to display JSM Assets in Confluence. For those of you like me who have sets of Assets that you want to share with people who aren’t JSM agents, you now have a means to do so! Check out the article for details on how to accomplish this.

  • Next, new audit log entries for Space and Page exports are now going to be displayed in the organization audit log for Confluence Enterprise and Guard Premium subscribers. More information about the activities happening in your Confluence site are always a welcome improvement.

  • Have you always wanted to be about to just simply add that external document into your Confluence content tree without having to first embed it into a page? Well, now you can with Smart Links! Simply create a new smart link (like you would a page, blog or whiteboard from the create button, add the url to your document and poof! Now it’s in the content tree!

  • Now, you can find your Compass components easier with new drop-down custom fields for filtering.

  • Finally, we close things out with all the amazing new features that were announced for Compass at Team '24! Which includes, but is not limited to - a new native integration into Jira, A new developer experience dashboard and the acquisition of Optic for API documentation.
