We are super thrilled to introduce an exciting new capability in Confluence: Smart Links in the content tree. We've built this new feature with a clear vision in mind - to centralize and structure content from disparate tools, reducing the time you and your team spend on app-switching while also enhancing collaboration across platforms.

🎨 Bring content to where the work is happening

From Figma files to Loom recordings, create a central location within the Confluence content tree to bring all your relevant pages, presentations, dashboards, and spreadsheets (and so much more). For every project, let Smart Links in the content tree be your one-stop-shop that keeps you in the flow instead of hopping between tabs. Simply press the Create button, choose Smart Link, and engage with most content directly within Confluence, thanks to the powerful embed experience.

🧩 Organize content in a way that gets the work moving

With the ability to add and move Smart Links to any part of the Confluence content tree, you control not just where a resource lives, but even if it sits above or below other content in the hierarchy. Put the exact content in the exact places your team needs in order to stay focused, rather than chasing down work across various tools and folders.

🔒 Share content without compromising security

When you add a Smart Link in the content tree, the embedded view respects the source permission of the original file or app. This means that even if you share the Confluence link broadly, only users with the appropriate permission from the original source will be able to access the embedded view.

✅ Smart Links in the content tree is now available to all Confluence users across all editions, and coming soon to Release Track customers in May. To learn even more about this new way to bring all your work into Confluence, check out our detailed documentation page.

👋 Try it out and let us know what you think!

We'd love to hear your feedback and experiences with Smart Links in the content tree. Give it a try and share your thoughts in the comments below. Your input will help us make this feature even better!

Best,

Abhinav Singh | Confluence Product Manager

Thanks @Abhinav Singh for sharing this, and in particular the link to the documentation. Looking forward to using this in our instance.

Hello @Abhinav Singh, would it also be possible to link to other pages within Confluence spaces?

@Maik van Rossum - Yes, you can link to any other confluence page, whiteboard, and databases within Confluence spaces. :)

@Abhinav Singh thanks, just pasted a URL and yes it works.

Given the fact that there are visually a lot of 'connectors' shown made me think I could search for a site or page, but I need to copy and paste an (internal) URL.

Hi @Abhinav Singh ,

I'm using a Live Search macro on my Confluence page, but I don't manage to have my current Smart Link pages as results. When searching for a term that is written in one of those Smart Link page, I have 0 suggestion and 0 result.

However, if a search for a term written in a Smart Links page title, I get results only if a hit the search button manually (no suggestion while typing).

The pages linked with Smart Link options are from other Confluence's spaces, that I have access to. Live Search macro settings are to search on my Confluence space, filter by all type and no filter by label.

Is there a way to have suggestions and results when using terms that are not necessarily on the title of the Smart Link pages? Is there any other option to try? Open to any suggestion.

Thanks!

@Maik van Rossum - In near future, we will be adding capabilities to access your recent work and search for specific link across Atlassian products + select 3Ps in the connectors section. So that should make adding Smart Links in Content Tree easier.

@BrunoLB - Thank you for raising this. Currently Live Search only supports Pages and Blogs as content types. We will be adding support to include Whiteboards, Databases, and Smart Link objects in the Live Search Macro.

Hi @Abhinav Singh, can smart links to confluence pages in other spaces be set to show their child pages in the content tree in the same way non-smart-link pages do?

This is the only thing missing to get away from awkwardly having scores of mostly-automatically synced pages. For example, I'm trying to maintain a "Development processes" page with one child page per process in a management space, but have all of them immediately accessible in spaces owned by various teams that use those processes. Currently there's a space sync rule that churns this out, but it would be immensely useful to just smart-link the one parent page from every space that uses it, and have both existing and new processes added later just be visible as children.

Hey @Abhinav Singh it's great to hear smart link indexing is coming in the "Live Search Macro"! Is there a timeline on that, or a page I can follow for updates? My team is having the same challenge as @BrunoLB , we've brought a lot of Google docs into Confluence but only their titles are indexing in search.
