Preview Panels will soon replace the detail view in Jira’s Global Search and List views

Its obvious the person who programmed this doesnt process tickets/work items in multitudes daily.

this is the dummiest move ever.  i have become used to Jira's stupidity and fifty steps to do something simple like add a new status... but this really is ridiculous

Taking away a VIEW option with NO WARNING.

AND HONESTLY this makes my work THREE TIMES LONGER .

WE have VERY long tickets/WI with LOTS of comments and attachments and the side panel is absolutely ridiculous.

MAKE IT AN OPTION FOR USERS TO DECIDE TO USE.

In one change You have increased my work time  I doubt i will recommend your software to anyone after this

Bad Move guys !

Alright. Hate it.
For my workflows this means always additional clicks. Slows me down.
Please provide the option to change the behaviour.

The removal of the Detail View is a step backward. It made it easy to access key information quickly, and without it, common tasks now require extra clicks and navigation. Please consider restoring it or providing an equivalent alternative!!!

In the early mornings I was so confused where the view went and searched for 30 minutes. I first thought it was an hotkey I pressed until I found this discussion.

I hate the decision to remove the detail view and replace it with that half baked new view.

Please revert!!!

While this change was announced in a February article, it is understandable that many users may have missed it. The rollout therefore caught many off guard. It would be helpful to better understand the reasoning behind this decision, as it comes with noticeable drawbacks from a user perspective: more clicks, longer loading times due to forced page reloads, and a less organized interface. Broader communication in advance, as well as the option to choose between views, would have significantly eased this transition.

I would strongly encourage keeping the detail view available as an option.

This is definitely a step back! The preview is way too small, so I have to click several times to gather the same informations that a had previously with just one glance. Also, the detail view gave me just the details, not just an extra clutter of more text. Yes, I've seen the detail view link in the upper right, but that needs another focused click and I have to close the windwow/tab afterwards... that's absolutely NOT making my life/work easier!

Please, at least add the option to disable that feature (or make it optional to begin with)...

PS: who suggested that feature in the first place? Can't be someone who's really working with it in real life...

No one in our environment likes this. Large scale complaints from all. Can you not provide an option to keep things as they are? Why the constant changes? This is highly unprofessional.

The new view is also extremely buggy, which of course Atlassian doesn’t care about. When you are clicking on a ticket in the list and the now tiny right side preview opens, the row you are on is no longer marked as selected so it is a constant struggle to determine where you are in the list.

Atlassian knows this all is a regression for their users, but they don’t care. Their priority is making life easier for them, not their customers.

@Amanda Sacks user reception to this well-intentioned change is starting to feel like the status button change debacle from last year that Dave Meyer had to walk back (Post-incident review for September 2025 change to status button location).

Perhaps now is a good time to rethink this implementation and get more research feedback to determine the appropriate course forward?

Hello,

Highly disappointed with this change.  Rather than attaining Atlassian's goal of "a more convenient and efficient experience" you have made it more inconvenient and inefficient.

Please bring back the user option to choose detail or preview view from the lists.  You already had the optimal solution, why you changed it, I cannot fathom.

The change in itself is fine if this was confined to improvement to the list view for a given filter. The fact that this change removed the option for detailed view is baffling though. The loss of detailed view is having an immediate and tangible effect on my organizations work flow and this feels like an unforced error.

I am leaving this comment in the hopes it leads to a decision to revert the loss of detailed mode as part of this change.

It's clear this is a change meant for project managers and non-engineering folks.

From an engineering perspective who needs to have full details on the screen because I'm only ever looking at one ticket at a time, this is a huge step backwards. At least give us the option to full screen the ticket, especially when there is code in said ticket, makes it hard to read. Some tickets include a lot of detail in them so being able to view it in its entirety is key.

It also doesn't make sense that when you click on a ticket, the action is to rename rather than open said ticket and instead you have to hunt for a tiny button to actually be able to look at the request.

Not to belabor the point but this UI update is a disaster and a step backwards for my entire team. Not in the "It's different" but it's functionally worse.

Echoing what others have said, our engineering team uses the detailed view because we need to view the extensive descriptions and comments on each individual ticket. Now we are forced to open a new window for each ticket we want to look at, the new preview view does not expand far enough to view what we need comfortably and we are forced to have half our screen real estate taken up by things we are not currently looking at. Please bring back the option for this view.

Add me (and quite a few users in our environment who) to the list of people who really do not like this change. What required one click yesterday requires two today. Why? The Preview panel is in no way helpful!

Yet another change for the sake of change, removing user choice without providing an opt-out.

Detail View has always been my preferred way of working in Jira. I have limited screen space and need to move quickly between issues while simultaneously reviewing comments, fields, labels, and linked Zendesk tickets. The new preview panel makes this significantly more difficult because it requires considerably more scrolling to access information that was previously visible and easy to navigate.

With the previous Detail View, I could keep my filtered issue list visible while reviewing issue details efficiently. Under the new experience, I often have to open issues in separate tabs or windows to see the information in a usable layout while still retaining access to the issue list. This creates unnecessary browser clutter and adds extra steps to what was previously a straightforward workflow.

What is most frustrating is not simply the interface change itself, but the removal of the ability to choose the view that best fits individual workflows. Different users have different screen sizes, accessibility needs, and ways of working. Eliminating Detail View entirely in favor of a single approach feels like a step backward in usability.

Please consider restoring Detail View as an option or providing a setting that allows users to choose between the new preview panel and the previous experience.

This is absolutely awful for change control. The entire point is that we have a list of tickets that we have filtered out to require individual review. All content on the left is completely useless. Because it was all already filtered out to only be tickets of interest. SHIFT-Clicking the ticket links bring this back into a somewhat reasonable usability. But then we are quite literally forcing functionality of our JIRA and into browser features. Major degradation of usability. Please consider reverting ASAP

Hello,

For over a month I've been trying to adjust to your recent UI update, which has not been helpful and makes things way more clunky to both write tasks and navigate, and now with this addition it feels like you've added yet another barrier to workflow. Hopefully some people like these adjustments/features but not making this an option or view choice seems really confusing an alienating to a lot of your user base. Please consider making it an option and allowing people to continue to use the detailed view.

Thanks.
