Setting Task Assignee to Component Leader in Jira Automation

Dear Jira Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well. I am seeking your assistance in setting up a Jira Automation rule to automatically assign tasks to the respective component leader. I have tried using Smart Values and the "copy" functionality, but I haven't been successful in achieving the desired result.

My objective is to have the assignee of a task set to the component leader whenever a task's component changes. I have explored using Smart Values to extract component leader information but couldn't find a direct way to achieve this.

Could you please confirm if there is a built-in functionality or method in Jira to accomplish this, either through Smart Values or other available features? If this is not currently supported, is there a workaround that I can implement to achieve this outcome? Additionally, if this feature is not available at the moment, are there any plans to introduce it in the near future?

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions you can provide. Your expertise in this matter is crucial for our team's efficient task management and assignment.

Thank you in advance for your assistance, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

DeanLee

Hi,

This feature doesn't exist in automation but there's a feature request (you can upvote for)

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/AUTO-485

So in you case you will need to call the Jira API to get the name of the component leader using a webrequest in automation

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Automation-for-Jira-Send-web-request-using-Jira-REST-API/ba-p/1443828

Or try this option below

Dear Mohamed Benziane,

Thank you for your prompt response and valuable information. I appreciate your guidance on this matter.

I have taken note of the feature request (AUTO-485) and have upvoted it, as it would be a beneficial addition to Jira's automation capabilities. I will also explore the options you provided, including using the Jira API with a web request in automation and the alternative solution mentioned in the Atlassian Community post.

Your assistance has been incredibly helpful in pointing me in the right direction, and I am grateful for your support.

Thank you once again, and I wish you a great day!

Best regards,

DeanLee
