Hello, community!
Within the next few weeks, our forums will be migrating to a new platform, currently planned to go live on September 22. Here are some other Q&As about the change:
Why are we migrating?
We have been dealing with degraded security and performance on the forums, which is hosted by a third-party platform vendor. We are migrating to a more modern, performant, and extensible platform.
Will there be downtime?
Yes! Our forum in its current form is almost a decade old, and in order to migrate 10+ years' worth of content, we anticipate at least 10 days of the forums being in read-only mode, starting September 11. We’ll keep you posted with announcement banners and Statuspage updates.
We’ll also be looking for each other on social media with the hashtag #NewForumSameAtlassian. If you have any questions in the meantime, we are always available at communitymanagers[at]atlassian.com
This seems sudden - why?
Unfortunately, we are working against a hard deadline due to our contract renewal dates and technical issues with our soon-to-be-former platform vendor. Despite the tight timeline, we are working to get some Champions in to check out the new platform and give us their initial feedback, so we can hit the ground running after the migration.
What is going to change?
We will be posting a UX guide about the new platform at launch to go over the major changes. Although you will see improvements (for example, an editor that makes it easy to embed videos! The ability to subscribe to tags!) there are also some areas with feature gaps. We will work as hard as we can to gather your feedback and ship ongoing improvements as quickly as possible.
What are the biggest known gaps?
We’ll be listening thoughtfully to your feedback as well as feedback from our Champions so we know what to tackle first. Fortunately, the new platform will allow us to innovate and add features more quickly – so please let us know how we can make your forums experience better.
What about my badges?
Our series badges are being discontinued, although you will keep your highest series badge (for example, 100 Likes Received or 10 Accepted Solutions) as a memento of your achievements. You’ll see those badges awarded within the month after migration, along with some Kudos points to give your reputation a bump.
Will Kudos be changing?
We’re taking this opportunity to make some additional improvements to the Kudos program. You’ll also see a refreshed Kudos dashboard, revamped levels, new challenges, and a lot more – keep an eye on the Community Contests & Kudos group for a dedicated FAQ soon.
How will you gather our feedback?
Our quarterly satisfaction survey is also being improved, and you will get your first chance to take that survey a month or so after the launch. In the meantime, the new Forums Ideas & Feature Requests space will let you vote on ideas submitted by our Community Champions and Community Management team. And finally – the comments here are open! We are eager to hear from you.
Any other questions?
Please leave them below (or if you’re seeing this during read only mode or just have a confidential question, email us at communitymanagers[at]atlassian.com) and we’ll be happy to answer them! In the meantime, Keep Calm and Party On. 💙
