Hi Atlassian Community!
2024 has been another exciting year for Atlassian Analytics, and we’re excited to recap what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months. But, before we dive into the features, let’s briefly share some context on our goals for the year.
We know that unlocking data and insights is a critical part of powering better decision-making, so with that in mind, this year we focused our efforts across a few key areas:
This year we expanded the treasure trove of data available for your teams to visualize with Atlassian Analytics and the Atlassian Data Lake. We heard feedback that you want to further connect teams and people with the work they’re doing, so to help with this this, we added data for teams, group names, unmanaged accounts, and issue-group mapping.
More Atlassian product data added to the Data Lake
To support admins as they better understand product usage, we’ve added data for Confluence storage, permissions, attachment size, and @mentioned users, as well as the ability to query story points and priority in related issue tables.
We also recognize that when our products evolve, adjustments in your reporting may be necessary, so we’ve added several new data points from related product features, including data for the Jira issue archiving feature, Compass components, and Confluence Database and Whiteboard metadata.
Last but certainly not least, we’ve also delivered Data shares, enabling you to export rich teamwork data from the Atlassian Data Lake to your own environments or business intelligence tools you may already be using.

Creating the right visuals that highlight critical insights can be challenging, even for technical users. That’s why this year we added a host of new templates and visualization capabilities to reduce complexity for creators.
We’ve continued to expand the Atlassian Analytics template library this year, which now hosts over 50+ templates to help you get started. Some of the more popular additions include:
Multiple sprint analysis (see image below)
Dashboards leveraging DevOps and DORA metrics (e.g. Engineering Effectiveness Dashboard)
Confluence content management, storage report and space permissions

In addition to new templates, we’ve also released a significant improvement to how you can query custom fields. The addition of a new Issue custom fields table simplifies how you query your Jira custom fields, enabling users remain in Visual SQL mode and reduce the overall time it takes to create new charts and dashboards that leverage custom fields.
Atlassian Analytics unlocks powerful insights and simplifies data exploration for end users, however, we’re continually focussed on making this easier whether you’re a SQL expert or a less technical user.
We started this with the release of Natural language-to-SQL in Atlassian Analytics at the end of 2023, and this year we’ve continued to layer AI to enhance your analytics experience. First, by adding AI-chart template search to help you find the right visual, even if you don’t know the name of the chart you’re looking for.
Then, in September, we built on our existing NL-to-SQL capabilities with the addition of AI-powered custom formulas to make it easier to write SQLite statements. Read more about how to use AI to write custom formulas.

But, AI can certainly be helpful beyond simplified data exploration. We’re also looking for ways to help you make even more sense of your data and quickly determine where you need to take action. That’s why we also released AI Chart Insights earlier this year at Team 24.

Finally, in addition to the updates above we’ve also been hard at work ensuring Atlassian Analytics continues to meet the needs of your business, whether you’re a scaling start-up or an established Enterprise.
First of all, this year we’ve added Data Lake residency for all regions with the exception of Switzerland which is coming soon. Also, users can now take advantage of IP allowlisting for Atlassian Analytics, and admins can more easily control who has the ability to manage 3rd party data sources.
We also recognize that as your organization grows, so does the number of workspaces or business units who are taking advantage of data & insights. With that in mind, we released dashboard import/export this year to improve the reusability of dashboards across your business.
To wrap, we'd like to say a MASSIVE thank you for all of your support throughout 2024, we hope you’re holiday season has been wonderful and we’re wishing you a Happy New Year in 2025!
Keep an eye out for our next update in February, where we’ll share details about what you can expect to see on the analytics front in April, at Team 25 in Anaheim, California.
