Welcome Wednesday: Ask Me Anything!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Honestly, trying to come up with a unique (and hopefully engaging) topic every single week can be challenging at times. That’s why you will see me reuse some topics form time to time, when it makes sense to bring them back again.

For this week, I’m drawing a blank. I’ve been thinking about ideas for far too many nights and I still have come up blank. so in lieu of a question from me to you this week, I’m going to reverse the roles and allow you all to ask me questions. You can choose any topic, just remember that I’m an Atlassian Customer like many of you are and therefore any questions about when Atlassian is going to fix or release anything will get an answer, but it won’t be correct

Alright, fire away!

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

@Jimmy Seddon As I was growing up there were 2 colour shades that made me feel nauseous, one a light pink and the other a light blue; I still feel uneasy around those particular 2 colour shades today.  Is there anything that totally irrationally makes you feel nauseous / makes the hairs on the back of your neck raise etc.?

Great question @Stephen_Lugton!  I do not like the smell of coffee.  In my teenage years I worked at the local grocery store and having to stock the coffee aisle was the WORST.  Thankfully I only had to do it a few times.

@Jimmy Seddon what is something on your 'bucket list' that you hope to accomplish someday?

Thanks @Josué Garcia!  My Dad was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada when he was 4 years old.  I would love to go see the area that my grandparents lived before they moved and to stay at least one night in a castle (simply to be able to say that I did that).

I like walking up to booths with signs that say "Ask me anything"... I usually pop off something like "What's the square root of 2?" or "What's the 23rd prime number?", just to get a reaction from the people in the booth.

With that said... lol.

@Barbara Szczesniak ohh that's easy!  I prefer staying around the house and either having lazy days where I'm not required to do anything.  Or getting to some of the things we keep talking about doing around the house but never really have time to accomplish.

Hi Jimmy,

I am looking to take my Atlassian journey ahead. I have acquired Jira essentials certification early this year.  I am looking to take up ACP-620 Managing Jira Projects for Cloud next. However, I am a little confused on two things:

1. The exam fee is $249, but I thought there was a big announcement in July/Aug that all exams will be $100. Is that not the case?

2. Also, some of the old video's refer to a prep course - how do I access that?

Any information that you could share would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi @Jimmy Seddon

Happy Wednesday!  If you were to create another marketplace addon, what would it do and why would you build that one?

Kind regards,
Bill

Hello @Jimmy Seddon

Have you ever had an "aha moment" while using an Atlassian product? For me, it was when I saw how JPD and JIRA integrated and how it displayed the delivery progress/delivery status.

Best,

Ju

@Bill Sheboy This one made me think.  Given my current interests and the type of content I create, probably something that would make it easier to browse the Atlassian University content library with context from within the product you are using which will filter the courses both by that product and your subscription tier.

@julvon yes i have!  It was many years ago when I hooked up a Jira Server, Stash (former name of BitBucket) Server and a Bamboo server together.  Once I had all three integrated we were able to see from the Jira ticket the source code branch, commits and pull request.  The status of the pull request and the deployment status to the test environment before merging the changes into a release branch.  That made everything much more visible for management.

@Tomislav Tobijas Thank you!  I unfortunately won't be able to attend Team '24 Europe.  Had I known they were going to do this at the beginning of the year, I probably would have decided to skip Vegas.  At this point I don't believe I would get approval from my company or my wife to go on another Atlassian Conference this year.

@Teodora V _Fun Inc_ you are lucky that the time stamp shows you asked the question before midnight.  Otherwise I would have refused to answer that today is my birthday ;) Thank you!

@Jimmy Seddon What's your favourite Jira geek-out? For me it's smart values in automation. I feel like there's always a new clever trick to learn to accomplish virtually anything. Definitely my happy place in administration.

Hi @Jimmy Seddon,

How do you handle PATs in your jira instance? I feel like they are quite a security risk as they allow you to alter a huge amount of data.

Should they be heavily restricted or am I just being paranoid?

@Jonathan Ditzel great question!  I agree with you smart values are extremely awesome!  I think one of the "newer" cool things I like "geeking out" over is JSM Assets and the power you have to make objects (and their attributes) visible on Jira tickets via the asset type custom field.

@Alexander Dickbauer I'm not sure I understand what you mean by PATs.  Can you provide more details about the acronym and I'll happily try to give you an answer?  Thanks!

@Andy Gladstone well that takes me back.  But yes I do!  I had a community account for a couple of years where I would look up answers but I never commented on anything.  Then, I decided to get involved after attending the 2019 Summit.  My first official act of contributing anything to the community was this: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Welcome-Center-discussions/Hello-Is-this-thing-on/td-p/1061461
