Following an above instruction while upgrading. Initialization of Jira 5.2.4 was successful but while import the xml data to use an existing Mysql database. It is giving a lots of problems.
There is a mandatory intermediate upgrade step of version 4.4. I suggest you first upgrade to 4.4 and confirm everything is fine and then plan for further upgrades.

That is true, there are not some file which used to be in 4.2.4. But following all the steps, I was still having a problem. Finally i figured it out that the main problem that I was facing was with the Previous JAVA version which is incompatible with the latest Jira. Upgrading JAVA jre1.6.0_16 to jre1.7.0_10 resolves the issue of improting .xml file.
