Jira 4.2 to 5.1 upgrade

Anandhi A December 2, 2012

Hi,

I am currently using Jira 4.2. I have jira 4.2 database dump. I plan to do the following:

1. Import jira 4.2 dump into the new oracle 11g database.

2. Install Jira 5.1 and connect it to the database.

3. Copy attachments and custom plugins into the respective folder.

Should i do anything else to make this upgrade complete???

Thanks in advance..:):)

Nope, that's pretty much what the documentation says you can do.

You should, of course, test this before you do it to your production servers. I've done bigger jumps than that and had problems, but nothing serious. One was fixed by using an intermediate - from Jira 4.1 to 4.4 to 5.1, and another one loses some data - 4.0 to 5.1 directly dropped some of the user groups (but they're using custom authentication, so I'm blaming that, and it's easy to repair).

But generally, you should be fine with that approach. You won't know until you test it of course.

Thanks Nic....

I will test this approach first and then move to production...:):)
