What are some options to integrate AWS API into a JIRA workflow

I'm looking to integrate JIRA workflows with EC2. What I've done so far is to use JIRA Webhooks to talk to API gateway which triggers Lambda which turns EC2 instances on or off.

The webhook method, however is a bit limited (or maybe I haven't realized the full potential). I want to know if any one of you ever tried something similar before within your workflows.

Preferably, I want to use the native tools of JIRA or free add-ons if possible as this is my pet project and has no budget other than AWS testing.
