How to set up a notification to the author when assigning a task due date?

You can build the following rule to send an email notification to the reporter when setting a due date:

You may also want to add a condition to send a notification only if Due date is not empty. Not sure the JQL condition is the best way to check this from a performance point of view, but you could this:
