Server capacity for Atlassian?

Rasmuss Graaf December 17, 2018

Hi,

Performance of Altassian Jira, Confluence and service desk seems shaky and occasionally are not accessible, this is particularly noted by customers in Asia.

What server solution is Atassain using and are there options to it when it is not performing good (being slow to load the page, or occasionally not even working properly with e.g uploads)?

Hello Rasmuss,

There are a few items you can review to see if they’re impacting performance with your Atlassian Cloud instances. A few of those items are as follows:

Browser performance

Outdated browsers will experience a slowdown or plugin/javascript loading issues.

  • Check browser version to see if it is up to date and supported
  • Check for extensions that check or disable javascript.

ISP or Network issues

This is most likely a factor if you are experience load-time issues on one machine, but not another.

  • Are you experiencing slow load times on other websites as well?
  • Has your ISP reported any issues/outages in the area?
  • Does your connection to your modem/router drop frequently?
  • Check your traceroute and look for high latency
    • Windows - enter 'tracert' followed by your site URL into a command prompt
    • OSX/Linux - enter 'traceroute' followed by your site URL into a terminal
    • Also in OSX navigate to to Applications>Utilities>Network Utilities>Traceroute tab

Issues with your site

If your site has recently increased usage, applications or plugins it may need fine tuning. This can be assessed by the Cloud Support team.

Additional items may be found at: Jira or Confluence Cloud Instance is Running Slowly

Along with this you mentioned issues with uploads. To allow us to find a possible cause to your issues, can you please provide more details? If possible, please provide screenshots to help share your experience. With this information we can start looking into the issue, or create a support case on your behalf.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, please see info belo:

utdated browsers will experience a slowdown or plugin/javascript loading issues.

  • Check browser version to see if it is up to date and supported
    Using Chrome with automatic updates
  • Check for extensions that check or disable javascript.
    I have no such extensions

ISP or Network issues

This is most likely a factor if you are experience load-time issues on one machine, but not another.

  • Are you experiencing slow load times on other websites as well?
Mail and other web sites (e.g. large newspapers etc.) worked fine
  • Has your ISP reported any issues/outages in the area?
    No, never
  • Does your connection to your modem/router drop frequently?
No, we're using fiber with an industry grade router and switch in our office.
  • Check your traceroute and look for high latency
    • OSX/Linux - enter 'traceroute' followed by your site URL into a terminal
In Ubuntu, traceroute has been switched to mtr, this shows no issue in latency.

Strangely enough, both JIra and Confluence pages are less laggy after getting back up after being unresponsive. Have you done anything on your end?

Best regards

/Rasmuss

Hello again Rasmuss,

Glad everything settled down and performance is back to normal. I can assure you no change was made on our end (more confirmation as we do not know which instance you were having the issue on).

If you have issues again, please let us know!
