Our team has expanded and I created a new project board. 2 members previously had a project board and had organized their work in releases. In order to keep that history, I would like to migrate those releases in the new board so that I can archive the previous one. Is there a way to do this and retain the release organization?
I've seen previous instructions, but it assumes the other board is active.
Hello @Jessica Kowalewski
Releases are associated to a Jira Project, not to a specific board.
Did you create a new board that references the same project, or did you create a new Jira project?
I create a new project so that it reflects the more broader work of the new team. The previous project reflected a more specific work.

Hello @Jessica Kowalewski
Thank you for that additional information.
Do you intend to migrate the issues from the old project to the new project? Or is the new project just for new work going forward?
Releases are project specific. They can't be shared between projects. You could create identically named releases in the new project, but they would be considered different release entities by Jira.
When you say you want to "migrate" the releases, what does that mean to you? If you were in the new project/board and you went to the Releases section, would you expect to be able to see the issues from the original project in those Releases?
Tell us in more detail about what you want to achieve with this migration.

Hi @Trudy Claspill ,
I'd like to piggy back on this community question.
We are in the process of migrating from team-managed to company-managed our projects.
We are wondering exactly this what you've mentioned "If you were in the new project/board and you went to the Releases section, would you expect to be able to see the issues from the original project in those Releases?"
Is this possible? or what would you recommend in this situation to retain the release information from the old team-managed project?
