Hi @Katinka Hitijahubessy

You can only change between Issue Types if they share the same Field Configuration and Workflow - if either are different, it can block you changing the Issue Type.

But you can still change the Issue Type using "Move":

  1. In the top-right, click the breadcrumbs icon (3-dots)
  2. Select the Move option
  3. Keep the Project the same, but change the Issue Type
  4. Follow the steps to complete

^ Give this a try and see if it works. I do know however it offers this option via the method you're using without following the other steps - so perhaps it's a UI update still pending on your instance?

---

Alternatively, you should also check if the Issue Type field is on the "Spike" Screen. You'll need to be a Jira Admin and then...

  1. Go to Settings (cog icon in top-right) > Issues
  2. On the left-hand side, select Screens
  3. Locate the Screen relevant to Spike
  4. Ensure the "Issue Type" field is a field option on the Screen

---

Let us know if either of these work for you :)

Hi Stephen, your second suggetion did the trick. We changed the definition of the Spike screen and now the issue types are enabled via the Move option.

Thanks!

Hello @Katinka Hitijahubessy ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

There might be a big difference in workflow or field configuration between Task and Spike.  Take a look at the following Knowledgebase article to see if this gives you any guidance.
