Fix version field is not enabled (not visible)

Nikhil Kabadi January 26, 2023

I enabled the Releases features for my Software Development Project. But the Fix version field is not visible for any of the issue types.

Even when I select Configure fields, there is no option to add fix version field to an issue type.

I can create releases, but cannot add these releases as fix version to my stories.

Any guidance here please?

Go to any issue in the project you want to activate the "fix versions" field. Select "find your field" and search for fix versions. It will give you links to activate the field in the project field configuration. Search or "fix versions" and on actions, enable 'show'

I've two team managed software projects (Product and Engineering). For both of these projects, the Release feature is enabled.

However, when a story is created, the Fix versions field is visible for only one project (Engineering). The other project (Product) does not show this field. Even though, both the projects use the same screen and field schemas.

I was able to fix this by deleting the default story issue type and creating a new issue type for stories and then moving all the issues to the new type.

Hi @Nikhil Kabadi

Please check if the "Fix versions" field is added to the issue screen scheme or not, if not then kindly add it.

Hi Ashish,

I verified this and I can see Fix versions field in the issue screen schema. Yet I do not see this field when I create a story. The problem still persists.

I'm using the default Jira setting and have not changed any issue screen schemas

Hi @Ankit Srivastava Thank you for sharing the relevant link.

But I have done everything here as per the link and the Fix version field is still not visible.

As mentioned earlier, Release feature is enabled. But none of the issue types are showing Fix version field (the field itself is not visible).

There is no Show more fields available (as per this link).

So the problem still exists.

Hi Ankit, the fix version field is visible in the screen schema. I'm using the default setting (and default screen schemas). But the issue still persists.

Hi @Nikhil Kabadi

I'm on Jira Cloud, and we're using company-managed projects. In my experience there are three things in the Project Settings that you should probably check:

  • The Fields tab - check the field configuration for the affected issue type(s) - if Fix versions is hidden, click on Show
  • The Screens tab - check the screen schemes for the affected issue type(s) - if Fix versions isn't listed on the relevant screen, add it - I see that you've already done this.
  • The Layout tab - check the layouts for the affected issue type(s) - again, if Fix versions isn't listed on the layout, add it

Hope this helps!

Hi Kelly, Thank you for responding to my query.

I was able to fix this by deleting the default story issue type and creating a new issue type for stories and then moving all the issues to the new type.

I have the same issue. Is it expected behavior that existing issue types would not be able to add the Fix Version field after enabling the Releases feature?
