BitBucket vs GitLab integration in Jira

My company is currently using GitLab, and we want to start using Jira. I've been looking at the gitlab integration in Jira, and it seems to me that you have to do it kinda manually by mentioning in GitLab the Jira issue ID, and mention that a commit 'closes', 'resolves' or 'fixes' a Jira issue ID.

This seems like a process that should be automatic.

I'm wondering if the Bitbucket integration is any more automatic than this?

Also, is automation of this not necessary what one would want? Is this maybe something you actually want to have manual control over?

Regards
Frimann

Hi @Frimann_Kjerulf__admin_,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

If you are using Bitbucket you can automate transitions of Jira issues by using workflow triggers. For example if you create a branch in Bitbucket the issue is moved to in progress (as long as the issue key is mentioned in the branch name) or if you create a pull request you can move the issue to in review.

Hi

So this is something that can not be done with GitLab?

Correct, currently workflow triggers are only supported when you are integrating with Bitbucket, Fisheye/Crucible, or GitHub.

Hello @Mikael Sandberg

I was wondering, till now the workflow integration is not supported with gitLab?

Mikael Sandberg Community Leader Feb 20, 2020

@Lama_Tatwany correct, Gitlab is not supported, but according to this feature request, JSWSERVER-14412, Gitlab EE 10.0 has an unofficial integration to Jira.

Hello, it's been a year and a half. Any progress on integrating with GitLab?

I'm with another company that uses GitLab, and we would like to use Jira for issue tracking / bug tracking. Thank you.
