Your Jira AI 2024 recap — and what’s coming soon for Atlassian Intelligence!

Hey community 👋

We want to welcome you to the new year with a look back at all the ways Atlassian Intelligence (AI) helped turbocharge your Jira workflows this past year, along with a little sneak peek of what’s in store for Jira in 2025. Let us know which AI features from 2024 are your favorite, and which you’re looking forward to the most in the comments below 👇

Four ways AI enhanced your Jira experience in 2024

1. Break down big projects into manageable tasks with AI work breakdown

AI work breakdown simplifies the work needed to get projects across the line by letting Atlassian Intelligence recommend relevant subtasks and child issues! This feature simplifies the process of creating multiple work items, saving users from the manual task of individually generating each one. With just a few clicks, you can generate a number of suggested work items that you can edit and create, allowing you to focus on getting work done.

2. Create Jira work items on the go with AI work creation

AI work creation lets you identify and create Jira work items directly from a Confluence page without juggling multiple browser tabs, copying and pasting text, or struggling to keep your page (and details) in view. You can either select text to create a single Jira task, or prompt AI to scan an entire page to generate a list of Jira tasks with pre-filled summaries and descriptions.

3. AI Summaries help you get context quickly

Whether you’re doing the work of three people or you're coming back from your summer holiday to a full inbox, Jira issue summaries can help you get up to speed - fast. Summarise that long conversation about a feature you’re building in Jira software or catch up on a conversation about a business project task within seconds.

4. AI issue reformatter improves the clarity of your work items

AI issue reformatter reads a work item and then clarifies the ticket for you by rewriting and restructuring your description for more effective communication.

Four more features coming soon to Atlassian Intelligence in Jira

Our Jira product teams are already hard at work on creating new AI features, expanding functionality of existing ones, and enhancing the performance across all Jira’s AI. Here’s just a few of the ways that will show up in the coming year:

  1. AI Work Creation from Slack (in beta). Effortlessly create Jira directly from Slack messages and threads. Our AI technology uses the context of your Slack thread conversations to suggest summaries and descriptions, making the process faster and more accurate, reducing the time and effort required. Learn more.

  2. Related Confluence Pages (coming soon). Automatically find related documentation (PRDs, Specs, Decisions) and surface them within a Jira issue

  3. Similar Jira Issues (coming soon). Automatically find similar Jira work items and surface them within a Jira issue.

  4. JQL fixer (coming soon). Quickly resolve errors when writing JQL so you can get to your results, faster.

I feel like Jira AI has become a real teammate last year! Here’s hoping this year we see AI-powered retrospectives to analyze what worked and what didn’t.

Confluence + Jira AI integration was the highlight of my year.

I really like the new create issue feature in Confluence. I was used to the workflow of creating a one-liner and then moving to Jira to edit its details, so this is fantastic! I've already got heaps of use out of it on meeting and workshop pages. Nice one :)

We moved to Jira Premium recently and don't use Confluence. I'm a little confused about how much value we'll be able to derive from the AI functionality without Confluence? All pointers very welcome :-)

Unlike most of the informative posts from your recaps, this seems like a weird, public "pat on the back" for yourselves.

I unfortunately did not have as much as a positive experience as everyone else, AI failed to assist me in almost every task I gave it, in both Jira and Confluence. Especially the assistance in writing JQL would've been a great feature, but it provided me incorrect syntax every time. I'm looking forward to improvements.
