Create Jira work items on the go with AI work creation

Creating Jira issues and tasks from Confluence pages can involve multiple browser windows and manual copy/pasting, ultimately leading to losing context and focus. But what if the number of steps (and clicks) required to set up work in Jira was less time-consuming?

With AI work creation, now in general availability, you can use Atlassian Intelligence to handle the mundane process of creating tasks so that you can get to work completing them faster:

  • Reduce context switching: Stay focused on your tasks without the need to switch between tools — we bring Jira to Confluence in a familiar way.

  • Save time: Summary and description are automatically populated by pulling context from your page, reducing the steps needed to create a Jira issue or task.

  • Enhance collaboration: With a seamless 1:1 connection, teams stay aligned as they transition from planning in Confluence to execution in Jira.

Note: In order to use AI work creation, cloud users will need to have Confluence Premium or Enterprise, and Atlassian Intelligence enabled within Confluence.

Create a single issue or task without the distraction

Ever find yourself reading (or creating) a project plan in Confluence only to realize there’s an item you’ll need to create a Jira ticket for? AI Work Creation can handle it for you! No, it doesn’t create work - it saves you from having to swap over to Jira.

Our modernized, in-context experience lets you identify and create Jira work items directly from a Confluence page without juggling multiple browser tabs, copying and pasting text, or struggling to keep your page (and details) in view.

How to use it: Simply highlight the text you want to create a task in Jira for, click “+ Jira Issue” and AI will automatically generate the summary and description. You can learn even more about this feature in our community post here.

Scan and create an entire page of work items at once

AI work creation also lets you generate multiple Jira tasks from a Confluence PRD or project plan, without needing to manually comb through a page for everything that needs tickets (potentially missing some).

Once you prompt AI, it scans the entire page to identify action items and then generates a list of Jira tasks with pre-filled summaries and descriptions. You can then create, edit, or delete individual tasks, or bulk create the entire list of work items at once. Say goodbye to writing out summaries and descriptions one-by-one!

How to use it: The feature can be found in the floating AI menu. Click the AI button and select “Create Jira issues.” You can create up to 10 Jira work items at once.

Are there any sources that can be used to create issues using AI other than Confluence.

That's really cool! Thinking about the combination with automated conversation notes created by Teams. Could be a gamechanger for our product owner!

Hi @forabi , you can now also use AI to create work items from Slack! You can learn more about this here.

If there are any other sources you're interested in creating from, please let us know!

Hi @forabi  – If you're exploring ways to use AI for work breakdown outside of confluence, say from directly within a jira ticket, we have a solution on the marketplace that also offers flexibility in crafting your custom AI prompts and managing how stories are broken down. Feel free to check out AI Agents for Jira if it aligns with what you're looking for. I would be happy to discuss this further. (Full disclosure: I’m involved with this product.)
