Improvements to the configuration of custom fields contexts in Jira

👋 G’day Atlassian Community!

I’m Artur, a Software Engineer from the Jira Data Center team.

In Jira 9.7, we’ve released a bunch of improvements related to the configuration of custom field contexts. And now we’re excited to share the results 🎉

What has changed?

We aimed to achieve two main goals while working on the feature:

  • Improving the performance of contexts configuration to make it highly performant regardless of the number of projects and issue types available on a Jira instance. Previously, at the enterprise scale of 1800+ projects and 450+ issue types, the page often became unusable.

  • Uplifting the UI and UX to provide better interaction with the feature.

We’ve conducted several user testing sessions, trying to understand which solution would simplify the interaction with the feature and help Jira admins quickly complete all the needed tasks.

Thanks a lot to everyone for sharing feedback and helping us make Jira better!

Where can you go for more information?

You can find detailed information about the updates in the following resources:

We’re looking forward to your feedback!

We’d like to know what you think regarding these changes. If you have feedback, let us know in the comments under this post.

Best,

Jira Data Center and Server team
