Are all of these features in Jira Cloud only or also DC?

@Doug McCloskey it does look like a number of these are gap-closing to get Cloud to what we can do currently in DataCenter, doesn't it?

Yes @John Dunkelberg you are correct.  Also note all the improvements are now exclusively in the cloud.  A year ago the differences between on prem and cloud favored on prem, but now, even though some of those gaps remain, their are now other distinct advantages in the cloud that offset some of those differences; the future is clearly the cloud.

John Dunkelberg January 12, 2022

We're assessing the Cloud offerings for both Jira and Confluence against possible future transition from Data Center.  It used to be pretty clear cut that Cloud wasn't ready for scale, but that sounds better now.  What tools are available to make that as painless and smooth for our users will be critically important as well.

Jira new view is still a steaming turd after 2 years - everyone hates it. Please enable old view at project level - I shouldn't have to use chrome plugins to get a better/efficient/usable user experience.

@John Dunkelberg There are migration assistants for Jira and Confluence available to help you move from DC to Cloud as quickly and painlessly as possible. You can learn more about where to start in our migration hub here

Thanks @Emilee - The article you linked looks like a high level overview of moving from Server to DC.  For other folks reference, I think the one you meant to link was the DC to Cloud article here.

I don't see a reference to maintaining continuity.  For instance, the organization doubtless has thousands of links into Jira and Confluence.  In other product transitions we've seen, all these links were broken at great disruption and cost to the org.  It would be reassuring to know if:

(a) links between Jira and Confluence will be maintained (i.e. link from Jira issue to Confluence page and vice versa).

(b) links into Jira/Confluence can be transitioned via a referral service.  For instance, since the migration tools had to map that dc.com/space/page is the same as cloud.com/space.page then can we have a period whereby a user that hits the DC URL is forwarded to the correct Cloud URL.

In any case, a colleague of mine is looking into the DC / Cloud gaps and we'll be discussing over the next months.
