Can someone advise if SLAs can be added to the workstreams created with the Business Project template or are SLAs only available when you use either IT Service Desk or Customer Service.

Welcome to Atlassian Community !!
SLA's are part of ITSM projects only and available in JSM only.
And it doesn't seem right to have SLA's for business projects and hence they are not part of them.

We have a need for SLAs in the project template as we wish to monitor time taken for each stage and if we are meeting our customer expectations.

Got your point, in that case you can create JSM Project only rite ?
