Automating Cloning Custom Fields

Richardson_ Jordan _CGI Federal_ April 28, 2023

Hello,

I am attempting to create an automation cloning tickets. There is one field that is a custom field on our tickets. Is there a way to carry that field over to the new ticket with the automation?

Hi @Richardson_ Jordan _CGI Federal_

If you mean with an automation for Jira rule, the answer is probably "yes".  The only limitation is if the specific custom field is supported by automation rules.

Do you have an automation rule already?  If so, please post images of your complete rule and the audit log details showing the rule execution.  Those will provide context for the community to offer suggestions.

And, you can determine if automation supports your field using this how-to article: https://confluence.atlassian.com/automation/find-the-smart-value-for-a-field-993924665.html

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Richardson_ Jordan _CGI Federal_

You can also use our Deep Clone for Jira app to clone your tickets (including custom field values) via Jira automation. You can use looping transitions with a post function as explained here.

Edit: Just noticed the server tag. Unfortunately, Deep Clone isn't available on Jira Server.

Hello @Richardson_ Jordan _CGI Federal_

Our Copy & Sync app can help you with that as you can create a recipe for cloning issues with their custom fields (and descriptions, status, comments, attachments, whatever you need), and then you integrate this recipe in your automation to trigger it.

If you can give more informations, I'll be glad to help you with that!

You can try our app for free during 30 days but it's free of charge under 10 users.

Let me know.

Regards

Thibaut
