What’s shipped this quarter?

Faster, secure, and more reliable cloud transitions 🚀

A new tool to assess your data ahead of a Jira Cloud migration

We’ve built Assessments, a tool designed to help you understand your Jira data. It enables you to identify key migration considerations in advance, making proactive planning and preparation easier and more effective. This approach supports faster and more efficient migrations by analyzing your data against Atlassian guardrails and provides clear, actionable insights and recommendations to prepare you for your migration.

We’re gearing up to expand the Assessments feature to include evaluations of Confluence and third-party app data to better support consolidation use cases. Beyond this, we’re committed to continually improving and investing in Assessments to ensure it meets your evolving needs.

Read this blog to learn more about Assessments and how you can join the Assessments Early Access Program (EAP).

Pre-migration checks in JCMA

With our Early Access Program (EAP) for pre-migration checks in the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA), you can now process and store pre-migration check results in advance.

These checks ensure your data can transition to cloud seamlessly and alert you to any necessary actions before migration, such as installing cloud products in your destination site. By understanding these requirements in advance of your migration, you can make informed decisions that streamline your move to cloud and reduce your overall migration time.

Additionally, the pre-migration checks will automatically identify and evaluate any new or changed data just before your migration, ensuring updates won’t disrupt your process. On migration day, these checks will run swiftly, providing you with prompt and efficient results to ensure a smooth transition.

To join the EAP, fill out and submit this registration form. Our team will review your application and provide reach out with next steps.

Phased migration of dashboards

We began supporting the "All/None" migration of Dashboards for Jira and Confluence in Q2 2024. Moving forward, we will also offer phased migration, allowing you to migrate Dashboards related to specific projects, in stages, to better align with your migration timeline and strategy.

Bulk data migration

As we focus on Project-by-Project (PbP), we are excited to introduce the "Select all data" feature which will be available in JCMA versions 1.12.2 and later.

This feature enhances the PbP migration pathway, allowing you to effortlessly migrate all instance data with one selection. This simplifies the process and leverages PbP’s backend capabilities, providing a more efficient and reliable migration experience, as seen below.

Merge, update or deactivate users with JCMA and Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA)

You can now fix duplicate or invalid users during a cloud migration. With JCMA version 1.11.7 and above and CCMA version 3.10.2 and above, you can now download a CSV list of all users and perform the following changes:

  • Merge users: Combine duplicate accounts.

  • Update email addresses: Correct any invalid email addresses.

  • Deactivate users: Disable user accounts that are no longer required after migrating.

  • Learn more about this.

Secure hashing algorithms

In July 2024, we shifted from SHA1 and MD5 hashing algorithms to the more secure SHA256. This adjustment aligns with our goal of achieving FedRAMP Moderate authorization and complying with international security standards. Learn more about this update.

P2 to Forge app migration

We launched an EAP to help marketplace app developers migrate Server and Data Center app data to Forge, unlocking enhanced capabilities that make your app more secure, reliable, and scalable.

As a part of this program, participants can test this functionality behind a feature flag and start developing an automated migration path to seamlessly transition apps to cloud with Forge.

Downtime estimations for app data residency migrations

We launched the app data residency migration downtime estimation tool. This tool approximates the duration of app data residency migrations so you can optimize operations during planned downtimes.

Find out which Marketplace apps have made this feature available by navigating to admin.atlassian.com>Security>Data residency.

Streamlined administration and enhanced collaboration 💪

A unified Jira Cloud product

At Team '24 this past April, we introduced an exciting update: Jira Core and Jira Software Cloud have been merged into a single, unified Jira Cloud product. This integration simplifies operations by:

  • Centralizing user management within a single Jira Cloud product.

  • Introducing flexible project configuration features.

As a result, we have ceased provisioning licenses for Jira Core. If you are planning or currently undergoing a migration, this post provides important information on how you may be affected.

Evolving your cloud footprint ☁️

Moving to cloud means your footprint is never set in stone

Expanding cloud-to-cloud product coverage

Cloud-to-cloud (C2C) migrations, made possible through the Copy Product Data tool in Atlassian Administration, now offer extended product coverage with support for Jira, Confluence, and Jira Service Management. We're committed to expanding entity coverage within each of these products in the upcoming quarters to ensure seamless migration where no data is left behind.

Unified interface for cloud-to-cloud migrations

The Copy Product Data tool has been enhanced with a unified interface in Atlassian Administration, streamlining the C2C migration process for Jira, Confluence, and Jira Service Management. This update enables administrators to conveniently choose their product and develop a C2C migration plan from a single screen, regardless of the product.

What’s shipping later this quarter?

Pre-migrate app data to reduce overall migration time

We’re enhancing the Cloud Migration Assistants (CMAs) to support pre-migration of apps and attachments, which can significantly reduce your migration time.

Phased Migration of Advanced Roadmap plans

JCMA will introduce a scoped mode for migrating Advanced Roadmaps, in addition to the existing "migrate all AR plans" and "migrate none" options. This new mode will enable the phased migration of Advanced Roadmaps based on your project selections. Also, while migrating All AR plans, JCMA will migrate only selected projects instead of migrating All Projects as it did before.

That’s a wrap! 🎉

Thanks for reading our round-up, and keep an eye out for next quarter’s digest.

We’d love to hear your thoughts, questions, or experiences with any of these features as comments below. Your feedback helps us improve and better support your transition to cloud.
