import child task in jira cloud of already uploaded parent

hello,

i'm using the import with csv method to buld import new tasks in my project.

I would like to set the parent-child relation already during the import, so I'm using a field "Parent".

I want to "attach" as child the new tasks to an already present task (an epic in my case)

I tried to set it with the number of parent or the projectName-number (eg. MYSW-123) but I receive a warning during the import

WARN - Unable to retrieve issue key for parent : MYSW-123

how should i setup this field?

thanks for your help

Hi @fabioabba  - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

While the other link was mostly about sub-tasks and their parent, there are ongoing problems with importing work items linked to Epics. Here is the open JAC ticket that you can vote for and follow.

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-92272

My experience is that sometimes you can do the import and get it to work using the Settings > System > External System Import. Other times it won't work. But it sometimes works if you do the import through the project itself. I would say try both and see if you can get one to work.

@John Funk I have same Experience, sometimes you can Rely on Import that it go stable, sometimes not.

@fabioabba you could use epic link to map child tasks to parent epic. But this works when epic is level 1 and task level 0.
