Won and Lost show up as unresolved

Jason Holloway July 10, 2018

In the Lead Tracking project type, the end resolution is Won or Lost.

In each case, however, the task remains marked as unresolved and thus shows up in all sorts of reports as still not resolved.

How do I change this so that marking a task as "Won" or "Lost" also makes it resolved.

Seems like a bug in this project type.

That's not a project type that comes with Jira, so I assume it is a project you have configured yourself.

I don't believe you are talking about "resolution" here, I think "won" and "lost" are status, indicating the current place the issue is in the workflow.  They're not values you select for the resolution field.

Your workflow is not setting a resolution when the issues go into the won or lost status.  This means Jira thinks they are still open.

Depending on the configuration of the project, you have to tick the "set resolution" flag on the board columns, or edit the workflow to add "set resolution" post-functions or screens.

For sure it came with Jira. I don't even know how to create a project type! :) This is a default project type in jira.

Won and Lost are indeed status, like To Do or Done would be or "Closed".  Except when you select Done as a status or "Closed" it also changes the Resolution to Resolved, which removed the task from a lot of reports. Whereas selecting Won or Lost leaves resolution as unresolved instead of changing it to resolved, which it what it should do. So I think we are in agreement here when you say "Your workflow is not setting a resolution when the issues go into the won or lost status.  This means Jira thinks they are still open." Yes, I agree. My goal is to get the "Won" and "Lost" status to automatically trip the Resolution to Resolved as well.

In this case the project is configured as a "Lead Tracking" project.

So how does one "set resolution" flag on the board column? Or if editing the workflow add the "set resolution" post-function or screen. How is that done?

Here is a great example of how it looks on a task: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s284/sh/0f7d5c63-8df8-4609-bda0-565d4ff6b69f/f4cd713bc90d192f

Thank you.

There is no lead tracking project type in Jira.  (In fact the types are just Business, Software or Service Desk, and although these each have a few templates, none of the built-in templates are "lead tracking").   Your admins have configured that, or possibly added an App that adds it, but there's no off-the-shelf template for it.

If you can use the boards to edit the workflow (only possible in projects that are configured to allow it), you can go to board configuration -> columns and look for the check-box at the bottom of the columns that won and lost are in.

For editing the workflow, you need to be an admin, then you can use the "edit workflow" option.

OK. Thanks. I'll check out.

You must ensure Resolution! = unresolved in the final state

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist-  Here you can see the Jira templates showing some project types that might be new: https://www.evernote.com/l/ARyKzAzlCJxFkJlZA-6-nZCnVAOOOA4J4oY

Maybe I am using the wrong terminology, but whatever this workflow is, I am trying to get the "Won" and "Lost" to automatically change the Resolution to "resolved", so if the terminology is wrong, sorry about that. @Ollie Guan I will try out those posts. Thanks guys

Hi @Jason Holloway,

The resolution field, you added Won and Lost two values?

What specific reports show unresolved? Can you give an example?

Jason Holloway July 10, 2018

Just to be clear again, I did not create Won or Lost or this project type (Lead Tracking). These are Jira default (end) statuses for the Lead Tracking project type that comes with Jira. You can see their workflow here from my screenshot: https://www.evernote.com/l/ARzKpCu0sk1G1rix9OdG6sm13IXtEkvUqws

Going through the workflow and getting to the last step: Won or Lost. That should result in resolved in the task. I can see that it doesn't by just looking at my home page or by looking at the details in any task. It shows Won or Lost as a status and the Resolution field shows unresolved. Here is a screenshot of one of the example: https://www.evernote.com/l/ARwPfVxjjfhGCb2gVl1P9raf9M1xO8kNGS8

Actually that last screenshot really says it all. You can see ... Lost as a status and still "unresolved".
