Hello!
What is the rationale behind moving the status transition button to the left and is there a way to revert this change or customize the button's position back to the right?
Hi @Vicky M ,
The status transition button in Jira Cloud was moved to the left as part of Atlassian’s design system update to improve accessibility, consistency, and visibility across its products. This change aligns with modern UX patterns that place key actions in the top-left area for better discoverability. Currently, Jira Cloud does not offer a way to move the button back to the right or customize its position. Users can share feedback with Atlassian, but layout customization at this level is not supported.
This is what Atlassian mentions:
Why are we making this change?
Many users told us that finding and updating a work item’s status was confusing. Moving the status field to a more visible spot simplifies your workflow and makes Jira feel more intuitive. Based on our research and past experiments, making the status easier to find led to more updates and smoother onboarding.

I honestly thought it was a bug. Its gone from being consistent as the 1st place to look to its in multiple places. I don't think its an improvement 😔

Same here. This is not an improvement. Now the status disappears when scrolling down the ticket - it used to stay static when it was on the right hand side pane which made it easy to read comments and then change the ticket status based on latest comments. Now need to scroll all the way back up after reading comments to change the status.
Atlassian's changes to UX this year have been baffling. They really didn't need to waste the time and money on making a product less usable.

Where is the "Propper" place to moan as I'm sure many will be frustrated further, the UI changes were enough, this is for me a step too far and its now a feature failure, not success any ideas @Rob Sher ?
