I've tried adding system rules into our project and whilst the rule to re-open tickets worked, the project refuses to add the other one which is:
When a comment is added → update the status
Has anyone else experienced this within their setup and were you able to resolve it?

So, what happens when you click on Add system rules button? Have you tried going to Project Settings > Automation? Are you Jira Admin? Or just a Project Admin?

1. Nothing, the pop up disappears with no rule added and it gives me the option to add it again
2. This was done through Project Settings > Automation
3. I'm a site admin and project admin
Can also confirm that it worked for 1 of the 2 suggested initially which was:
When a customer comments on a closed request → then reopen the request
