While filtering out the issues on the basis of Severity (radio button), its a custom field, i get the error message "Severity is not applicable for the current project and/or issue type - error message on filtering" . I tried editing the custom field and context but still not helping.

This is down to the context of the field, so you probably need to check the context again - are you sure it is set for the project and issue type?  You need to check that for all project and issue types that your search might return, not just the issues it currently does.

If you have changed the context for the field, did you re-index after changing it?
