Hello,
Is anyone able to shed some light on a strange issue we are having with JIRA.
I have created a filter and used that filter to create a new board (to show just one particular epic and related records). The filter works absolutely fine in the timeline view but when you click on the list view the filter doesn't work and we get visibility of all contents in the whole project.
Is this just by design or is there something I'm missing?
Many thanks
Amelia
Hi Amelia,
What you're seeing is expected behavior in Jira. The board's filter is correctly applied in the Timeline view, which is why it shows only the issues you want. However, the List view is tied to the entire project context and does not respect the board's filter, even when accessed through the board.
This means the List view will always show all issues in the project unless you manually apply a saved filter each time. Unfortunately, there's currently no way to link the board filter directly to the List view.
A common workaround is to use dashboards with filter results or to rely on Timeline and Board views where filters are consistently applied. If this behavior is disrupting your workflow, I recommend sending feedback directly from the List view interface. Atlassian is collecting user input on this for future improvements.
Ah ok thank you very much for your explanation - at least I'm not missing something :) I will use timelines and dashboards going forwards for those filters.
I will also ping JIRA some feedback as well - seems bonkers that a board you create with an applied filter doesn't flow across the whole board.
Thanks again
Amelia
