Is there a way to turn on Self-Signup per Project (not site-wide)?

James Armstrong November 27, 2023

Were currently use Jira for a handful of projects, and only one of those (the Support Helpdesk) is external facing.

The rest are internal, and shouldn't have any contact with the outside world.

At the moment we have Self-Signup disabled, with the below logs when a non-registered email address sends an email:

"Sorry, self-signup is disabled for this help center. You need to be invited first."

I have been told this is because it would allow the outside world to register themselves to our internal project, if they happened to get their hands on the project URL, or the project email.

So back to the question, is there a way to turn on Self-Signup per Project (not site-wide)?

Hey @James Armstrong ,

Welcome to the community.

If you're looking to let users get "Customer" Access to your service management portal then that can be done by setting the default access to Customer in the User Access Settings https://support.atlassian.com/user-management/docs/control-how-users-get-access-to-products/.

If you need to control the Jira Software project Settings then you can try the below steps (haven't texted, but should work in theory) :

* Allow USER access to the Jira Software User

* Default group that grants access can be used obly to grant access to one of your internal Projects

The problem with the above approach would be that it's limited to granting access to one project by default and anyone on the internet maybe able to get access to it.

If I may have misunderstood your use case, please can you try to give an example of the output you're expecting.

Thanks Jehan,

That's pretty close to what I'm aiming for.

I think I will have to change the setting for the whole Site to allow users access to 'Self-Signup', and then turn it off per project, except for the one I want to allow Self Signup for.

I do have another question (is there a way to make sure an email goes back to the user who triggered the "self-signup is disabled" error), but I can raise that in another post.

Thanks,
