How to suppress Dead Projects in JIRA linked issues project pull-down menu

If i setup a linked Issue (actually a Development request) on a Helpdesk ticket, the project pulldown menu field gives me a whole load (21 in fact) of dead projects (Closed/Complete) before any of the current live projects are displayed. How do i suppress these dead projects from the pull down!

To remove the option to link to an issue in a project, remove the users ability to edit issues in that project. It won't be offered to them in the linking dropdown if they can't create a link in there.

I dont want to remove the option to link to a project, just remove the Dead projects from the list of projects available to assign to - There are currently 21 in the list and they come up first

So they are not really "dead"? Because people can still use them?

They all start "[Closed]" or "[Complete]"

Why would a display name have any effect on how a thing works? Have you tried taking away people's access to edit these projects?

I am not sure you are getting the point.

I just do not want to have to scroll though these dead 21 entries to get to the project i want to assign the ticket to!

"How do you suppress them in the list? " Take away people's right to edit issues in the projects you don't want to see.
