Enable JIRA internal directory

We currently have Crowd configured as our only user directory. We would like to enable in our Jira Service Desk the ability to allow email requests from anyone emailing to the helpdesk.

Since our Crowd directory is read only, would we need to:
A) Check the option in JSD to "Anyone can email the service desk or raise a request in the portal" and

B) Enable the JIRA Internal Directory as well?

We would set the Jira Internal Directory to secondary.

Is this best way to allow requests from non-crowd accounts? If there are other items I should be aware of, please advise.
