Converting custom field type

Hi All

I have a single line text field type custom field with hundreds of issues using it.,

I want to convert it to multi line text field type custom field.

How can i do it?

Is database manipulation my only option? Will i be supported by Atlassian if i do this change>

Changing text field to multi line text field is pretty easy. Check out https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Changing+Custom+Field+Typesfor the DB scripts.
