Changing the filter query caused the project backlog and board to disappear

Gavrilo Ilijev April 20, 2018

I don't have perfect information on what exactly happened but to the best of my knowledge this is how the issue occurred:

A board administrator attempted to edit the Filter Query for the board from the "General and filter settings" screen from "project = <PROJECTNAME> ORDER BY Rank ASC" to "project = <PROJECTNAME> OR labels = <LABEL> ORDER BY Rank ASC" where <PROJECTNAME> is the project for which the board was created and <LABEL> a label that when attached to an issue in other projects should make it also appear on the board in question.

It may be relevant that he is not the owner of the original filter and that the owner of the filter is a user that is no longer available (I believe they have left the company and their user profile is inactive). When he saved the filter query changed to a different existing one, not the one he saved, and when he attempted to do it again the board disappeared from the project.

All the issues are still there but the left-hand sidebar no longer contains the icons for the backlog and the kanban board and when trying to access the board directly through its URL the following error message appears "The requested board cannot be viewed because it either does not exist or you do not have permission to view it."

It is also worth mentioning that the board administrator who changed the filter query can see the board just fine but nobody else seems to be able to. When he attempted editing the filter for the second time it worked for him and he sees the board and the settings as he should but it appears other people cannot see it at all.

Hopefully somebody from the Atlassian community knows what may have caused this and how to restore the board. I would appreciate any help and pointers you can give me, if you need additional information please ask and I'll attempt to answer to the best of my ability.

Kindly make sure that the new filter for the board is shared with the user, who can not see the board.

That's it, thank you very much.

Hi @Gavrilo Ilijev,

My suggestion would be to check that the filter that the board is using is shared with everyone who needs to access it.
