Hi all,
It looks like Atlassian recently rolled out some UI updates to the Timeline view, and I'm hoping I'm just missing a setting here.
Previously, I could expand an Epic directly within the timeline list to see all of its underlying child tickets. Now, the only way to see child issues is by hovering over the three-line icon on the left, which opens a separate pop-up window.
This new view is a bit too restrictive for my workflow. Am I missing a toggle somewhere, or is there a way to re-enable the inline expansion for child tickets in the list view?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
Hi @joao zampa --
Unfortunately there is not a toggle. It's the new Timeline UI as detailed here:
The good news is, YOU CAN OPT OUT. As the author wrote in an update yesterday (Jul 1, 2026):
If you'd like to opt out of the new timeline while we work through these gaps, please contact support to opt out.
I just wanted to add here that if this change adversely affects you, your site, and your users, you definitely should:
Doing these things should send a signal to Atlassian that they need to prioritize this fix.
You’re not missing a toggle, this looks like one of those recent UI changes from Atlassian. The inline epic expansion in Timeline has been replaced in some instances with the pop-up or side preview via the left icon. Unfortunately, in most cases there isn’t a setting to bring back the old inline child expansion. Best workaround I’ve seen is using the issue hierarchy or switching to backlog view when you need that tree-style expansion.
