Sadly this is a bug we are aware of and that the work item team is currently fixing. Apologies for the inconvenience this is causing. The expected behaviour is that the setting is persisted.
If this view becomes available or rolled out to the company managed spaces , will the admins have controls to remove some of the feature sets within the new change view. For example Team Managed Boards are a company administration nightmare and for a organization with lots of boards consistency is key and collaboration between board views. With this new change I can already see a board that now looks like a social media outlet , cards filled with GIFs and as a PMO its really hard to wade through all that to see what is actually going on with the work itself. Or can a team opt out of the new view if being rolled out?
Definitely and not liking the individual columns scrolling. It makes is SO much harder to see everything assigned to individuals and see the full picture to manage tasks, review, and make updates. Can't seem to find a setting to update this so everything scrolls together and it has made Jira far less useful for me. Am I missing it in a setting somewhere?
We use the Done column to walk through finished tasks during bi-weekly review, whereafter we clear the Done column. During summertime w might not go through review for 6 weeks, and it's good to have the done column there in order to review tasks we might have forgotten about.
Please bring the functionality back ASAP or provide a similar solution.

Thanks for explaining your workflow, @lennert holmberg The automatic βHide done work items afterβ setting isnβt a good fit here, it would hide items based on age before youβve had a chance to review them, particularly when reviews are several weeks apart.
Weβre currently harmonising the experience across our board views, and as part of that work weβre looking at a solution closer to what company-managed projects offer: a field-based approach, using a field such as Release version in CMP projects to control which completed work remains visible for review.
In the meantime, an additional unmapped status such as Archived can provide an on-demand way to clear reviewed items from the board while keeping them available in List and Backlog views.
Weβve heard this request from other teams as well, and your review-cycle use case is helpful context as we shape the solution. We donβt have a firm timeline to share yet.
