I have labels as custom field and "demo-desk" is the only label that appears. How do I remove it?

maficca April 19, 2020

I am very new to Jira and we are using the next-gen service desk to track our calls, we are a start up and do not have a proper call center right now.  Any way, I set up a request type for calls and would like to include the custom filed labels to the request.  When selecting attempting to set default labels, "demo-desk" always appears and I am not able to remove it or set additional labels. I can use all the assistance I can get.  Thank you, Melissa

Hi Melissa - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You have to do this by using the Bulk Change functionality.

1. First, run a filter for the label you want to remove

2. Then choose the Bulk Change feature

3. Select all of the issues and click Next

4. Then choose Edit Issues

5. Go to the Change Labels field

6. Select Find and remove these from the dropdown.

7. Put in the value of demo-desk in the field underneath the dropdown.

8. Go to the bottom and click Next.

9. Follow through the rest of the process following the prompts.

Keep in mind that you have to fully remove the unwanted label from all issues for it to disappear from the list when typing the label.

I hope that works for you!

Thank you for the information.  If only I knew how to run a filter.  I have never worked with Jira before and are struggling to understand just how the system works.  I am not techy.

Are you using the new top navigation that has the blue Create button at the top? Or the old left side navigation that has the magnifying glass on the left side?

The new top navigation.

I was able to filter the label and find demo-desk, but now I am stuck there.  I do not see anything like the steps you mentioned.  No Bulk Change feature.

I am also in next-gen.

When you execute the filter and get the list, there is a 3 dot menu in the upper right side.

If you click on that, you should see Bulk change all xxx issue(s) with the number of issues returned in your filter

I must not have the filter set up correctly because I do not see that option under the 3 dots.

i have tried to add a screen shot to show my filter in case that is the problem but that is not working either.  I am so frustrated right now.

filter to remove demo-desk from labels.PNG

maficca April 19, 2020

maybe it worked that time?  Can you see a screen shot?

you don't have any issues from the filter so you wouldn't get the menu. Click on Switch to JQL, then type this in the filter:

labels = demo-desk

then click search. You should see a list of issues come up.

thank you, it worked for me and i have removed the unwanted label.

I have added a screen shot since I do not have that option from the 3 dots.  I think i must not be doing the filter correctly.
