Upgrading from v4.0.1#471 to v5.1

Marion Husler September 30, 2012

We are looking at information to upgrade our instance of Jira from v4.0.1#471 to v5.1.

In addition, we will be migrating our Jira to a new server, and changing to a 64 bit environment.

Do we need to perform an interim upgrade from v4.0.1#471 to 4.4 and then to 5.1?

Or can we upgrade directly from 4.0.1#471 to 5.1?

Or is there another approach we need to take all together?

Thank you.

Hi Marion,

The detailed steps to upgrade JIRA from version 4.0.x to 5.1.x are described in Upgrading JIRA Manually documentation, but to sum up, you'll need to:

  1. Backup everything from your JIRA 4.0.1 instance;
  2. Install JIRA 5.1.x (I really recommend the latest JIRA version);
  3. Migrate the configuration files and the attachments over to 5.1.x;
  4. Point JIRA to the JIRA Home and database;
  5. Start JIRA and update the plugins.

Also ensure that all the plugins you currently have in your JIRA instance are compatible with JIRA 5.1.x.

Kind Regards

Thank you for the answer and information

Additionally, it looks like we need to go through the upgrade to 4.4 so that the userbase can be upgraded to the new implementation of user management.
