Points per story (accumulated from sub-tasks)

Anders February 15, 2016

Hi,

I have created the following structure in Jira: Epic - Story - Sub-task. For each sub-task I have added points. What I would like to see is the accumulated points per story, but that information isn´t visible as far as I can see.

Is it possible to see that information anywhere?

Unfortunately not. The purpose of story points is that during estimation it provides a rough idea to the scrum team how long roughly the story is going to take to complete without diving into the individual tasks of that story.

If you use story points for estimation, then you can get the accumulated sum directly on the planning board (of course you can only estimate for stories and not sub-tasks)

If you are using story points for tracking progress, i would recommend that you use Effort in units of time for tracking progress. Then you will have Sigma (Original estimate) and remaining estimate to give you tracking information.

Thanks for your answer!

It ended up that we manually added the accumulated story points for each story. In that way we can for example see the total amount of points for each sprint. However, I will look in to the alternative way of doing it that you propose.
