trusted-users-***** in my user list

Alessandro Mastrogiacomo January 31, 2020

Hi there,

I see sometimes when editing permission preferences in Jira, this trusted-user-***many*numbers***. Is it related to a plugin or something similar?

I cannot find any info about it.

Thanks!

Hello Alessandro,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

The trusted-user on permissions is related to all Trusted users of the site. This is a group of the internal users who the site-admins added as Trusted users.

Add-ons are part of atlassian-addons-project-access only.

The ID that shows on the group is related to the directory and also this group is not visible on Administration because it can't be deleted.

Regards,
Angélica

If all of my users are in other groups, that already have permissions in Confluence space settings, is there any reason for the "trusted-users-abcd1234-xxxxx-xxxxxx" to be in the list of groups with space permissions?

Hi @Adam Hechler

This is an internal group that is used to manage the Trusted user's role. While the group is normal, it is not supposed to be visible. There is an open bug report for this which I encourage you to vote on and follow here:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-80526

Ohey, in case you might have to prove to somebody (say like, an auditor) that that Trusted Users group does not actually contain any users, you can access the members via the API:

https://YOURSITE.atlassian.net/rest/api/2/group?groupname=trusted-users-abcd1234-xxxxx-xxxxxx

And you could compare that to another group that DOES have users, like say:

https://YOURSITE.atlassian.net/rest/api/2/group?groupname=jira-admins-YOURSITE

Oh oh, and there's documentation about Trusted Users here:

It should be noted that at the top of that page it says:

The role "trusted" has been discontinued for the improved user management experience. If your site uses the new interface, you are not able to assign users the trusted role.

And that as of Feb 2022, JRACLOUD-80526 said:

Update: Today, only 25% of customers will still experience this issue, as the Trusted User role has been deprecated for 75% of customers. This will continue to fall over time as we build the new User Admin role and migrate customers to the new admin.atlassian.com experience.

I'll though I will also note that it is now June 2024 and my company still has the OLD user management UI with Trusted Roles and WITHOUT the new User Admin role. :-{
