migration

Yousuf Turkey October 26, 2023

Hi,

We have two very old organizations in Jira Cloud. The task is to move both of these organizations from one account to another account with a different organization name. On the internet and in documentation, the steps seem very simple. You just need to back up from "System > Backup Manager" and then restore through "Import Data," which I did. However, after uploading 600 GB of data from the old UserID and importing it to the new UserID, nothing is restored. The process seemed to go well; I restored and overrode all users, but the result is still the same - nothing appears in the destination. The old account has 10 projects with lots of data, but nothing is showing up in the destination. I've tried this with different variations, but nothing seems to work. Therefore, I need your kind help. Could you please guide me on what's going wrong and how I can fix the issue to successfully restore the data?

Thanks,

Yousuf

Hi @Yousuf Turkey and welcome to the Community!

I am not entirely sure I understand what you are trying to do, being slightly confused by the terms you mention.

If you are trying to move old sites into a new organization, check out this support article describing how you can transfer all your products into a different organization without having to backup / restore anything.

The article also describes how you can verify if your site qualifies for such a transfer (direct link to the article ). If not, it may be best to contact Atlassian support directly to check out what is going wrong when you try to restore your backup. You may do so via https://support.atlassian.com/contact/ where you can create a migration support ticket

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Walter, for the details.

I apologize for the delay. The idea is to migrate all Jira project work. For example, I have multiple Jira projects that we use to manage and handle bug tracking and other production related tasks. We want to migrate those project dashboards and their work history to another user.

We attempted this by creating a backup from old user and then uploading the backup to the new user. However, nothing was imported, and there were no errors during the import process. the import went successfully, and no error showed up of any kind. I also tried both overwriting users and not overwriting options, but neither of them resolved the issue.

Any ideas or tips would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.
