I have a project with a single workflow. One status in the workflow has no outgoing transitions but we now need to create a new status for that status to transition to. Because of the rule that you can't add transitions to statuses without any existing transitions in an active workflow I can't do this.
If i make a copy of the workflow, then edit that copy, can i add it to the project and assign the related issue types to it without interrupting / compromising existing work items?
In theory it's safe, when you change your workflow scheme, you will have to remap your statuses if a status is missing. So there is a security here.
But don't forget, if the workflow scheme is shared by multiple projects, this change will impact all these projects.
thank you and, a follow up if you have the time, is there a resource on remapping statuses you can share?
