created vs resolved gadget - difference between sum of created and sum of resolved

Mauro Bennici October 26, 2023

Hello,

I'm trying to get the grasp of the created vs resolved gadget, there's something that is out of my knowledge.

If I configure the gadget to show the running sum of the period (let's say daily), the difference at each point is not the amount of "not done" items in my backlog.

i.e. I have 300 items done up to Oct 26, 330 items created up to Oct 26, but in my board (same filter) there are less than 30 items to be worked on.

Intuitively I imagine it's something related to the impossibility to make a difference of two running sums, but I need an explanation clearer than that.

regards.

Hi @Mauro Bennici,

As better alternative to the limited Created vs Resolved gadget of Jira can be the gadgets offered by our Great Gadgets app.

More specifically, with the Release Burnup Burndown Chart offered by this app, you can display a more powerful  Created vs Resolved as described here: A powerful Reported vs Done chart for Jira dashboards

Note that this is just one of the many gadgets that this app offers. It can be a great asset for your team and company.

No photo description available.

I hope this helps.

Danut.

Hi @Mauro Bennici ,

It counts the number of Done issue and Created issue in your period of time. The created date of Done issues can be before your period. If you want to view how many issues created in a particular day and how many issues created in that day were done, you can use Recently Created Issues Report.

And some reason that you see the items in your board less than 30, you may not count the issue which is swimlane when you have your board config swinlane by Epic or Story.

Hope this helps!

Hello, I have no swimlanes in the board, and the filter is the same.
What I need to know is, if on today's date I see 300 items done and 360 opened, should it mean I have 60 items not done on my board?

@Mauro Bennici I think no. It may be over 60 items.

Mauro Bennici October 26, 2023

@Thuan_ Do Dang it's actually the opposite, I have like 36.

As far as I know, the more I add depth to the report, the wider is the gap, suggesting me that I'm creating more than I'm resolving over time.

But the explanation of the reason why the difference in the last day of the report is not the current work to be done is beyond my reach.

Hi @Mauro Bennici ,

In jira, resolved is meant only when a ticket has value set in "Resolution" field.

Your ticket status "Resolved" / "Closed" / "Done" is not considered as resolved in gadgets and filters unless resolution field has a value. Please check if all Resolved/Closed/Done status tickets have value in "Resolution" field.

If you cannot find the Resolution field in your ticket, ask your jira admin to add "Resolution" fields to the Issue type screens.

Mauro Bennici October 26, 2023

Hello,

I have no ticket in a Done status category and with a resolution != Done.

My question is, is it right to consider the difference on the Y axis as the amount of work still to be done? Because it doesn't seem so.
