I found an back up option in current JIRA 3.12 version. Name "Back up data to XML". Do you know what's going to be included or not included for this XML Data backup? Like including all the JIRA Plugins, data, attachments and path location. Please kindly clearify to us.

Thanks and regards,
Gary Fong

The XML backup will include only the contents of the JIRA database. What it will NOT include is:

  • Attachments
  • Plugins
  • Any other files like avatars, icons, server DB configuration, memory settings, etc..

To backup everything you need XML backup+archive of JIRA_HOME+archive of JIRA_INSTALL directories

Hi Boris,

Can you please give details how to backup archive of JIRA_HOME + archive of JIRA_INSTALL?

THanks and regards,
Gary Fong

You need to check

  • where JIRA installation directory is default is: /opt/atlassian/jira
  • where JIRA_HOME directory is - default is /var/atlassian/application-data/JIRA
  • If you're using custom directory for attachments - by default they're stored in JIRA_HOME/data/attachments

So after you know the locations you just create a tar.gz archive of these directories
