Will changing the workflow scheme on a project result in email notifications?

I am JIRA administrator and need to swap from the current to another workflow scheme on one particular project. The Notification scheme Event "Issue Updated" will fire and all people that have underneath roles in the project will get a notification of this change? Am I correct in this assumption?

How can I prevent the mail storm I am expecting?

change of workflow scheme is not related to Issue Updated event, you can safely change it up without any notifications.
