Unable to upload attachments, error message "An internal error has occurred "

Felix Herrmann September 1, 2021

Hello,

we migrated our Jira server instanz to a new hardware and updated the system from Version 7.1.8 to 8.13. We use a postgres database Version 9.6.

After the migration we copied the attachements from the "old" Jira system manually to the new data directory. All the attachments files we copied are shown correctly in Jira.

But after the migration we are unable to uploade new attachment files. When we try to uploade an attachment file we get this error message:

ErrorMessage.PNG

What we have already checked/tried:

  • It happens with every user
  • In every project
  • We already tried different browsers, its always the same message
  • The permissions from the attachment directory is 777 at our linux system
  • restarted the system
  • It doesnt matter how large the file is, we changed the Attachment Size from 15 MB to 100 MB but it had no effect.

We already checked our logs, but we cant find something useful.

Is it possible that there is an permisson error with the datebase maybe ?

I hope somebody can help us with our problem.

Hello @Felix Herrmann

Welcome to the community.

Internal errors are the exceptions caught on the server-side which are generally unexpected errors. There should be something wrong in the log files, you can't fix the problem by guessing the problem's root cause.

It might be a database issue (generally after migration, database table sequence or constraints cause such problems). By the way, as far as I see, your Postgre version (which is 9.6) is not a supported version. It should be at least 10. See here for the supported platforms).

However, it is just a guess, please check the logs. The devil is in the details, and the details are the logs.

Hope it helps

Tuncay

Thank your for your answer !

We solved this issue already, the configuration of the firewall was the problem.

The firewall blocked the jira upload service. After we changed the configuration the attachement upload works fine.
