JIRA project lead is not able to create a dashboard and keeps getting following error.

Error

  • You do not have permission to share. All shares are invalid.
  • The user 'username' does not have permissions to share. The owner has not been changed.

I am the global JIRA admin and have assigned the Project Administrator access to my colleague who is the project lead in this case. I have also verified global permissions and made sure that the lead has permissions to create shared objects.

I would appreciate suggestions to resolve this issue.

Hello Saniya,

Just to confirm that we are on the same page here:

I see that you mentioned that your project lead is unable to create a dashboard in a Jira project. About this statement, Dashboards are not related to specific projects in Jira, but it is a global view that can be used to display details of all projects that you can access.

That being said, I'm not sure if you are meaning Dashboards or Boards, but I believe that the error displayed to your project lead must have the same root cause for both features: The global permission Share dashboards and filters.

The permission above is required to share dashboards or board filters in Jira and can be granted by performing the steps below:

  1. Choose the Jira icon (, or ) > Jira settings > System
  2. Select Global Permissions.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Add Permission section.
  4. Select the permission you want to grant in the Permission dropdown.
  5. In the Group drop-down list, select one of the groups which your project lead belongs to. P.S: Other users in that group must be able to share filters and dashboards too. If you do not want to grant them this permission or are not sure about it, create a new group under User management to grant this permission only for the users you want.

For more information about global permissions, you can check the documentation below:
